Will of James Cofer probated March Term 1816. Wife Partheney,myplantation. Sons James and Jacob received land, and one granddaughter,Sally Marshall, received 1/12th of the estate. Executors. Sons James andJacob. Witnesses were Isaac Dalton, John and Susannah Cox. (Need to viewfull will to see if other children are mentioned by name.) 1800 Stokes Co., NC Census: James Cofer (Coffer) 2 males 0-10 1 male 10-16 1 male 45+ 1 female 10-16 1 female 45+ no slaves 1810 Stokes Co., NC Census James Cofer 1 male 16-26 (It appears that a male has died or left the householdbefore age 20) 1 male 45+ 1 female 16-26 1 female 45 + It would appear that Nancy (m. 1806 Stokes Co. to Quillan) is not a childof James. Also possible dau. or gdau. Frances b. 1790, m. 1811 Stokes Co.to Elijah Fowler. Samuel Fowler provided surety for Thomas Cofer's 1792marriage to Elizabeth Taylor). (James' son Thomas had 3 dau. of the rightage.) James Cofer appears on the marriage bond of Kathy to Seth Ham (StokesCo., 1812). |
